Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and Roadtrip Historian ("we", "us") for using the Roadtrip Historian app and heyhistorian.com. By using them, you agree to these terms.

Drive safely

Roadtrip Historian is designed to be heard, not watched. If you're driving, keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel: set up your trip before you drive, let passengers use the screen, and answer out loud or not at all. Obey all traffic laws. Never stop somewhere unsafe or illegal to look at a place.

Respect the places

Many historic places are private homes, farms or businesses. Hearing about a place is not permission to visit it. Don't trespass, and follow posted rules at public sites.

About the history

Stories and answers are written by artificial intelligence from public records such as the National Register of Historic Places, the Library of Congress, and encyclopedia facts, and are read aloud by a computer-generated voice. We work hard to keep them accurate, and every story shows its sources, but they can contain mistakes. They are for education and enjoyment, not professional, legal or safety advice. If something is wrong, please use "Report a problem" in the app; a person reviews every report.

History includes hard and uncomfortable events. We tell them truthfully. "Kids in the car" skips stories that center on violence.

Your account

An account is optional. You're responsible for keeping access to your email address, since that's how you sign in. You can delete your account at any time in the app or at heyhistorian.com/delete-account.

Trip passes

When trip passes become available, they will be sold through Google Play, and Google Play's terms and refund policies will apply to those purchases. A pass's price and length will be shown before you buy.

Your use of the service

We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app and its stories for your own, non-commercial use. Please don't copy, resell or republish the stories or audio, scrape or overload our service, try to get around its limits, or use it to break the law.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is". We don't promise it will always be available, cover every place, or be error-free. Coverage depends on public records and cell signal.

Limits on our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, or for anything that happens because of how or where you drive, stop or travel. If we are responsible for a loss, our total responsibility is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it.

Changes and ending

We may update these terms; we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app about important changes. You can stop using the service at any time. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, except where the law of your home country says otherwise.
